Crypto History: The Rise of Bitcoin and the Movement That Followed

Let’s start with the grandfather of crypto—Bitcoin.

Before it became a household name or an asset worth over $100,000, Bitcoin had very humble beginnings. Believe it or not, in its early days, Bitcoin was practically worthless, trading for less than $0.01 in 2010. In fact, one of the most famous historical moments was when a developer named Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas—what’s now known as Bitcoin Pizza Day (May 22, 2010). Today, that would be over a billion-dollar pizza order!

A Simple Idea That Changed the World

Bitcoin was launched on January 3, 2009, by the mysterious figure known as Satoshi Nakamoto. The goal? To create a decentralized, peer-to-peer money system—one that didn’t rely on banks or governments.

In a time when trust in the traditional financial system was shaken by the 2008 financial crisis, Bitcoin offered a new way: trust the code, not the institutions.

From Bitcoin to a Global Movement

Bitcoin paved the way for the entire crypto space. After its creation:

  • Ethereum was launched in 2015, bringing smart contracts and new use cases to blockchain.

  • ICO booms in 2017 showed the world how powerful blockchain fundraising could be (and how risky too).

  • NFTs, DeFi, and meme coins exploded in popularity in 2020–2021.

  • And today, in 2025, we’re seeing real-world use, mainstream adoption, and institutional money entering like never before.

Why This Matters

Understanding where crypto came from gives you perspective. It shows how innovation starts small and grows through belief, community, and development. Bitcoin's journey from $0 to $100k is a reminder that we’re still early, and the future of blockchain is just getting started.

Crypto isn't just about price—it's about revolution.
